Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, officials in Lagos confirmed on Wednesday night. The fighter was caught in a vehicular crash in the Lagos area on Monday, a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of two of his close associates.
The sports star had remained in the hospital while recovering from minor injuries, his promoter stated earlier on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on social media that Joshua was judged healthy enough to leave and heal privately.
“The boxer and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two deceased friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the official remarked.
Those who lost their lives were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. The official further stated that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the loss of his two dear friends.”
The news of his discharge arrives after the sports world shared sympathy for the fighter in the aftermath of the terrible crash.
